if I seen it was in his religion, I'd believe it, but its not and his religion(which I'm guessing is christianity) is pretty degrading to women so I'm not buying it. And when you all keep arguing something I'm not even mentioning, then yeah you're not grasping it. Its his scapegoat, i'd respect it a lot more if he just come out and said "I'm just not comfortable" but he didn't and used that card.

Like I said, we grasp it we just don't believe it. And maybe he is muslim and believes she should be wearing a burqa and not a singlet.

I don't think you have a problem with his excuse, you just have a problem with christianity. Everybody knows you hate religion. So what? You think it is a LAME EXCUSE, I don't. You are not grasping what I'm saying. Which is this: "It's his reasoning and unless he gives me reasons to believe he's not truthful or sincere in those reasons, then I take him at his word."

You are saying: "He shouldn't use christianity as an excuse because it's degrading to women anyway." I don't buy that. Guess what? Don't have to buy that. There's plenty enough opinion out there to go around so I don't have to share yours.

We all know you love to bash christianity and that your arguments are so intelluctual that we just can't handle them. We know we are just not in the philosophical elite. And if we don't already know that, then I'm sure you will tell us.

    Re: Lame excuse...

Lmao if it had been Muslim, we wouldn't hear any of this from this.

I can post verses to back me up, so buy it or not, its still reality. Its not likd its some secret how I feel about religion, its also how people use it too and this is an example...looks like he played it just righh since a lot of you have accepted it as a valid defense even though I can't seem to find anywhere in the religion that proves it. Let's not pretend you have some inpartial view about this either, knowing that means you're every bit as biased from the other side, so get off your high horse with it too.

Only ones that talk about my intelligence are you guys when you have nothing left to argue, its the 'well you think you're so smart', even though I never come close to saying anything like that. I always say prove me wrong or at L at least back yours up...but nothing. Of course this is opinion genius, I don't think it had anything to do witj his religion and asked where's it at in his religion? Haven't seen anything and from what I've resd of the bible(which is a lot more than you hink) its probably not in there and he should switch religions if he's all about women rights.

Well, opinions are like *******s, everybody has one. Opinions are overrated, as for me, I stick with my faith.

    Re: Lame excuse...

You think that just because you "read" the bible you are an expert on Christianity? Cool. I'm gonna go check out a book on nuclear physics tomorrow. By Monday I should be a scientist.

Just because you have "read" parts of the bible and have surfed the web diligently looking for anti-christian material to spew forth like a pernicious fool doesn't mean you are an expert on christianity or the bible.

Christianity is not about precept, but a person. Until you know Christ, you can't know true christianity.

So you have verses to back it up? I garauntee you have taken them out of context.

I am not afraid of what you can cut and paste and put on here. There is no doubt in my mind I can refute every bit of what you might "think" is degrading to women, or anything other evil device your dark heart can muster.

I have been confronted by older, wiser and more educated atheists than you. Maybe you ought to wait til you graduate high school or finish college first. Get a little more dry behind the ears. That way it won't look like I'm picking on a young'en.

    Re: Lame excuse...

See, same lame tactics., with that ridiculous argument. I through that in because I was just waiting for the 'what do you know you don't even believe it' lines.

surfed the web? Lmao I'm posting this from my phone, its nothing new I had to look up or never said on here...nice try though. Never claimed to he an expert, once again its you saying these things about me...so thanks again. And just because you get to stand up and talk on Sundays doesn't mean you know anymore than anyone else.

You fail to realize I grew up in it and extremely involved in it most of my life, that argument. Doesn't fly.

Right, when I get back to a computer I'll post them because I'd love to see you apply that argument...I'll expect you to reflect when that fails to 'oh this was a long time ago or this has to be the OT' right after. Some just need to accept there's some nasty stuff in that book that turns a lot off to it and the religion....all the dressing it up in the world doesn't change that. But I'll try to post that when I get back, should. Be pretty fun watching you do your rediting. Lmao

I'm sure they laughed too, but again, someone is getting desperate for material so they play the age card. Sad as always though and as petty as ever. I figured this would be a fun thread, I forgot what area. I lived in though for a second, I can tell that this just being some excuse by him could never be accepted...thread will probably get moved or closed...so if I post those verses they'll be in the religion forum.

Heart of matter: No one to blame in Iowa wrestler flap

    By Gregg Doyel
    CBSSports.com National Columnist
Feb. 20, 2011Tell Gregg your opinion!
An Iowa teenager abandoned his pursuit of a state championship because he refused to wrestle a girl -- the height of chivalry or the depth of chauvinism, depending on your perspective. Me, I think Iowa teenager Joel Northrup is all class. Considering his beliefs, he did the right thing. Put into that same position, I probably would have done the same.
Maybe that makes me sexist, and if that doesn't, this would: writing about the inherent differences, physically, between men and women. Men are stronger, more explosive, and as such it's common decency not to use those advantages against a woman.

img14715619 Cassy Herkelman (left) addresses the media as her father, Bill Herkelman, looks on. (AP) That's what I want to say, but then I think of the girl in this wrestling story. And I stop. Her name is Cassy Herkelman, and she earned her way into the state tournament. She had gone 21-13 this season with eight pins, and in Iowa, that's no joke. That's arguably the most competitive state for high school wrestling, and Herkelman reached the state tournament fairly -- by finishing second at district.
Herkelman belonged in that tournament. With all my heart, I know this.
Northrup felt they didn't belong on the mat together. And deep in my heart, I agree with that.
How is that possible? Because this story is so complex that it defies an easy -- or even a consistent -- position. Show me someone who's convinced that there is one side to this story, and only one, and I'll show you someone who hasn't thought it through. Like ESPN's Rick Reilly. He's one of the most talented writers in this business, but he went lazy by taking a quick look at this kaleidoscope of a story and Wrestling with conviction - ESPN Northrup "was so wrong," Reilly wrote, and Herkelman deserved better.
Reilly wasn't completely off -- Herkelman did deserve better. She qualified for state, and she deserved the chance to win her first-round match legitimately. A real athlete doesn't want to win by default, and Herkelman is a real athlete. She's a real wrestler.
    And yet, she's a girl ...
Does that last sentence make me sexist? Maybe it does. Honestly, I don't know anymore. All I can do is what Northrup did, which is to explain myself. Here's the statement Northrup released in explanation of his default:
"I have a tremendous amount of respect for Cassy ... However, wrestling is a combat sport and it can get violent at times. As a matter of conscience and my faith I do not believe that it is appropriate for a boy to engage a girl in this manner."
Impressive statement for a 16-year-old. No way I can compete with that, but let me try. I never wrestled, but I do box -- and there are times I'm put into the ring against a woman. Nothing overly competitive, just a sparring session, but it weirds me out. I simply can't hit a woman, not with anything more than a weak pitter-pat. If that makes me sexist, so be it, but I'm like Northrup, minus the faith angle: "I do not believe that it is appropriate for a boy to engage a girl in this manner." So when I spar with women I focus on defense and spend the round trying not to get beaten up, because that's better than the alternative -- trying to beat up a woman.
Whether you agree with Northrup, think of what he sacrificed. Wrestling isn't a lark to him. Real wrestlers, like Northrup -- and Herkelman -- work harder than any other athletes in high school. They run and drill and wrestle and diet, then run some more. They twist each other's ears to cauliflower. They do all of that for months.
Northrup did all of that and went 35-4 this season. He did all of that and was ranked fifth in the state at 112 pounds. He did all of that ... just so he could default rather than face a girl.
The whole thing is a his-and-her heartbreak. Neither kid deserved what happened, or didn't happen, in their match. Presumably there aren't enough female wrestlers to hold a girls tournament in Iowa -- as they do in California, Hawaii, Tennessee, Texas and Washington -- so Iowa girls wrestle the boys. Wrestling isn't like track or soccer or basketball, which routinely have boys and girls teams, or baseball, which has a rough equivalent in softball. If a girl doesn't live in one of those five states but has her heart set on wrestling, she deserves that chance. I believe that.
But if a boy doesn't want to wrestle a girl, he has that right. It doesn't make him a chauvinist or a coward. It makes him a gentleman.

    Re: Lame excuse...

That backs up what I was saying, that she was not a simply overmatched girl.

I dunno why he posted about boxing, boxing and wrestling couldnt be further apart.

It also backs up what I was saying about physical differences
